I started weaving seriously more than 30 years ago and I am still fascinated with all that can be done on a loom. Developing the ability to create a beautiful textile out of an armful of yarns is captivating. It starts with a “what if…” What if I used this color against that color, this texture or that size yarn, what if I use this pattern? Weaving is a never ending “what if…” and being able to use a computer to design means that I have the ability to try “what if” as much as I like. I also enjoy the mechanics of the loom and the rhythms that develop as yarn is measured out, taken to the loom to be threaded for the pattern, wound on to the back of the loom and fastened to the front so that weaving can begin. I started with a manual floor loom and when I realized I wanted more complex pattern I moved to a computer-assisted hand weaver’s loom allowing me to weave basic to very complex patterns.
