Art has always been an important part of my life. Growing up in a family of artists I was always making things- drawing, painting, sculpting- just playing with whatever supplies were around. Nature has been a source of inspiration since my childhood, and relief printmaking allows me to express the beauty I find in natures smallest details as well as grand views. My linocut and woodcut prints capture patterns adorning dramatic landscapes and organic features. My works are inspired by both Western and Japanese aesthetic traditions. The monochrome pieces I have made aim to accentuate contrasting values as the detailed patterns carry the eye of the viewer through the piece. I also design pieces with color details or full color, created either using multiple blocks or hand-coloring. The strong graphic contrasts of the an image hand-printed from a block unite the style of monochrome and multiple color pieces. I continue to explore the block print medium and am excited by the possibilities of what I can create next!
